Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization up 10 Percent from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 2.64 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on March 31, 2005 totaled 2.64 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.98 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.58 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 742 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 77.0 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 742 million pounds of which 715 million pounds were edible grades and 27.2 million pounds were oil stock. Edible grade stocks by type included 136 million pounds of Virginias, 550 million pounds of Runners, and 29.2 million pounds of Spanish. March millings totaled 443 million pounds. Millings by type were 95.4 million pounds of Virginias, 336 million pounds of Runners, and 12.1 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 148 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during March. Utilization by type was 75.3 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 31.1 million pounds for peanut candy, and 40.2 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 21.2 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.55 million pounds of peanut butter and 33,264 pounds of roasted peanuts during March. Stocks of treated seed on hand March 31, 2005 totaled 24.5 million pounds, compared with 1.63 million pounds on February 28, 2005. Of the March total, 2.17 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 22.2 million pounds were Runners, and 51,000 pounds were Spanish. February stocks of treated seed included 401,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 1.20 million pounds of Runners, and 33,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to March 31, 2005.
