Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization up 7 Percent from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 2.00 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on May 31, 2005 totaled 2.00 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.56 billion pounds last year. This total includes 991 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 689 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 92.0 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 916 million pounds of which 665 million pounds were edible grades and 23.7 million pounds were oil stock. Edible grade stocks by type included 140 million pounds of Virginias, 490 million pounds of Runners, and 35.3 million pounds of Spanish. May millings totaled 267 million pounds. Millings by type were 63.6 million pounds of Virginias, 194 million pounds of Runners, and 9.23 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 138 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during May. Utilization by type was 72.7 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 29.3 million pounds for peanut candy, and 34.1 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 29.8 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.40 million pounds of peanut butter and 66,528 pounds of roasted peanuts during May. Stocks of treated seed on hand May 31, 2005 totaled 24.6 million pounds, compared with 45.2 million pounds on April 30, 2005. Of the May total, 2.98 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 19.7 million pounds were Runners, and 1.95 million pounds were Spanish. April stocks of treated seed included 4.83 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 38.4 million pounds of Runners, and 1.91 million pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to May 31, 2005.
