Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 1.11 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on August 31, 2005 totaled 1.11 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 728 million pounds last year. This total includes 452 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 601 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 56.6 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 452 million pounds of which 436 million pounds were edible grades and 15.9 million pounds were oil stock. Edible grade stocks by type included 107 million pounds of Virginias, 301 million pounds of Runners, and 28.1 million pounds of Spanish. August millings totaled 260 million pounds. Millings by type were 34.2 million pounds of Virginias, 225 million pounds of Runners, and 1.60 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 167 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during August. Utilization by type was 88.1 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 38.3 million pounds for peanut candy, and 39.0 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 30.9 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 3.50 million pounds of peanut butter and 69,120 pounds of roasted peanuts during August. Stocks of treated seed on hand August 31, 2005 totaled 264,000 pounds, compared with 291,000 on July 31, 2005. Of the August total, 131,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 118,000 pounds were Runners, and 15,000 pounds were Spanish. July stocks of treated seed included 131,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 144,000 pounds of Runners, and 16,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to August 31, 2005.
