Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Down Slightly from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 4.35 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on December 31, 2005 totaled 4.35 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 3.30 billion pounds last year. This total includes 3.70 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 600 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 50.0 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 451 million pounds of which 435 million pounds were edible grades and 16.6 million pounds were oil stock. Edible grade stocks by type included 87.6 million pounds of Virginias, 330 million pounds of Runners, and 17.4 million pounds of Spanish. December millings totaled 349 million pounds. Millings by type were 62.5 million pounds of Virginias, 286 million pounds of Runners, and 52,000 pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 133 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during December. Utilization by type was 40.8 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 49.9 million pounds for peanut candy, and 41.8 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 38.6 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.17 million pounds of peanut butter during December. Stocks of treated seed on hand December 31, 2005 totaled 250,000 pounds, unchanged from the stocks on November 30, 2005. Of the December total, 122,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 114,000 pounds were Runners, and 14,000 pounds were Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to December 31, 2005. All other data are for the month of December.
