Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Down 1 Percent from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 3.50 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on March 31, 2006 totaled 3.50 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 2.64 billion pounds last year. This total includes 2.61 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 839 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 50.7 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 631 million pounds of which 611 million pounds were edible grades and 19.6 million pounds were oil stock. Edible grade stocks by type included 126 million pounds of Virginias, 454 million pounds of Runners, and 30.7 million pounds of Spanish. March millings totaled 382 million pounds. Millings by type were 58.1 million pounds of Virginias, 310 million pounds of Runners, and 13.3 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 139 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during March. Utilization by type was 77.6 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 25.4 million pounds for peanut candy, and 34.7 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 33.1 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.28 million pounds of peanut butter and 33,264 pounds of roasted peanuts during March. Stocks of treated seed on hand March 31, 2006 totaled 21.0 million pounds, compared with 2.52 million pounds on February 28, 2006. Of the March total, 2.77 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 18.1 million pounds were Runners, and 142,000 pounds were Spanish. February stocks of treated seed included 160,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 2.35 million pounds of Runners, and 6,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to March 31, 2006. All other data are for the month of March.
