Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Down Slightly from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 2.82 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on May 31, 2006 totaled 2.82 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.96 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.96 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 804 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 55.3 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 604 million pounds of which 581 million pounds were edible grades and 23.8 million pounds were oil stock. Edible grade stocks by type included 129 million pounds of Virginias, 426 million pounds of Runners, and 25.6 million pounds of Spanish. May millings totaled 331 million pounds. Millings by type were 85.4 million pounds of Virginias, 241 million pounds of Runners, and 4.40 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 145 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during May. Utilization by type was 81.4 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 27.4 million pounds for peanut candy, and 35.3 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 38.3 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.56 million pounds of peanut butter and 199,584 pounds of roasted peanuts during May. Stocks of treated seed on hand May 31, 2006 totaled 7.88 million pounds, compared with 33.2 million pounds on April 30, 2006. Of the May total, 1.26 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 6.34 million pounds were Runners, and 282,000 pounds were Spanish. April stocks of treated seed included 6.16 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 26.4 million pounds of Runners, and 661,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to May 31, 2006.
