Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 1.86 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on August 31, 2006 totaled 1.86 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.09 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.09 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 720 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 50.7 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 541 million pounds of which 523 million pounds were edible grades and 18.1 million pounds were oil stock. Edible grade stocks by type included 127 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 374 million pounds of Runners, and 21.6 million pounds of Spanish. August millings totaled 369 million pounds. Millings by type were 40.3 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 328 million pounds of Runners, and 1.16 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 175 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during August. Utilization by type was 96.2 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 38.5 million pounds for peanut candy, and 39.1 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 43.1 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 4.28 million pounds of peanut butter during August. Stocks of treated seed on hand August 31, 2006 totaled 551,000 pounds, compared with 736,000 pounds on July 31, 2006. Of the August total, 240,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 293,000 pounds were Runners, and 18,000 pounds were Spanish. July stocks of treated seed included 337,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 381,000 pounds of Runners, and 18,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to August 31, 2006.
