Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Down Slightly from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 1.80 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on September 30, 2006 totaled 1.80 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.36 billion pounds last year. This total includes 995 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 759 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 40.9 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 571 million pounds of which 546 million pounds were edible grades and 25.3 million pounds were oil stock. Edible grade stocks by type included 123 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 401 million pounds of Runners, and 21.1 million pounds of Spanish. September millings totaled 346 million pounds. Millings by type were 40.4 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 300 million pounds of Runners, and 6.12 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 160 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during September. Utilization by type was 80.4 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 37.0 million pounds for peanut candy, and 41.8 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 35.0 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.99 million pounds of peanut butter and 238,032 pounds of roasted peanuts during September. Stocks of treated seed on hand September 30, 2006 totaled 574,000 pounds, compared with 551,000 pounds on August 31, 2006. Of the September total, 264,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 292,000 pounds were Runners, and 18,000 pounds were Spanish. August stocks of treated seed included 240,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 293,000 pounds of Runners, and 18,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to September 30, 2006.
