Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Down Slightly from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 2.22 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on May 31, 2007 totaled 2.22 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 2.82 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.37 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 794 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 50.2 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 597 million pounds of which 555 million pounds were edible grades and 42.2 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 109 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 408 million pounds of Runners, and 38.2 million pounds of Spanish. May millings totaled 351 million pounds. Millings by type were 65.1 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 279 million pounds of Runners, and 7.15 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 151 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during May. Utilization by type was 88.4 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 27.2 million pounds for peanut candy, and 35.1 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 20.5 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.64 million pounds of peanut butter and 66,528 pounds of roasted peanuts during May. Stocks of treated seed on hand May 31, 2007 totaled 10.8 million pounds, compared with 31.5 million pounds on April 30, 2007. Of the May total, 1.30 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 8.89 million pounds were Runners, and 608,000 pounds were Spanish. April stocks of treated seed included 7.41 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 23.6 million pounds of Runners, and 500,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to May 31, 2007.
