Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 1.17 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on August 31, 2007 totaled 1.17 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.85 billion pounds last year. This total includes 445 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 692 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 35.4 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 520 million pounds of which 488 million pounds were edible grades and 32.7 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 110 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 342 million pounds of Runners, and 35.8 million pounds of Spanish. August millings totaled 279 million pounds. Millings by type were 38.8 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 240 million pounds of Runners, and 1.07 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 159 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during August. Utilization by type was 86.3 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 31.2 million pounds for peanut candy, and 41.2 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 38.5 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 3.97 million pounds of peanut butter and 34,560 pounds of roasted peanuts during August. Stocks of treated seed on hand August 31, 2007 totaled 524,000 pounds, compared with 650,000 pounds on July 31, 2007. Of the August total, 253,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 221,000 pounds were Runners, and 50,000 pounds were Spanish. July stocks of treated seed included 264,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 338,000 pounds of Runners, and 48,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to August 31, 2007.
