Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Down 10 Percent from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 1.08 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on September 30, 2007 totaled 1.08 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.79 billion pounds last year. This total includes 432 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 614 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 30.4 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 462 million pounds of which 432 million pounds were edible grades and 30.1 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 73.0 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 323 million pounds of Runners, and 35.4 million pounds of Spanish. September millings totaled 231 million pounds. Millings by type were 27.4 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 203 million pounds of Runners, and 754,000 pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 145 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during September. Utilization by type was 74.1 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 31.6 million pounds for peanut candy, and 38.4 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 40.1 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 3.48 million pounds of peanut butter and 34,560 pounds of roasted peanuts during September. Stocks of treated seed on hand September 30, 2007 totaled 465,000 pounds, compared with 476,000 pounds on August 31, 2007. Of the September total, 195,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 220,000 pounds were Runners, and 50,000 pounds were Spanish. August stocks of treated seed included 205,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 221,000 pounds of Runners, and 50,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to September 30, 2007.
