Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Down 4 Percent from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 3.20 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on December 31, 2007 totaled 3.20 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 3.94 billion pounds last year. This total includes 2.61 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 537 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 48.8 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 404 million pounds of which 373 million pounds were edible grades and 31.0 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 74.3 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 268 million pounds of Runners, and 30.5 million pounds of Spanish. December millings totaled 284 million pounds. Millings by type were 65.5 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 212 million pounds of Runners, and 6.06 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 137 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during December. Utilization by type was 76.8 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 21.9 million pounds for peanut candy, and 38.0 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 30.5 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.44 million pounds of peanut butter during December. Stocks of treated seed on hand December 31, 2007 totaled 377,000 pounds, compared with 409,000 pounds on November 30, 2007. Of the December total, 184,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 154,000 pounds were Runners, and 39,000 pounds were Spanish. November stocks of treated seed included 191,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 179,000 pounds of Runners, and 39,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to December 31, 2007.
