Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Down 1 Percent from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 2.62 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on February 29, 2008 totaled 2.62 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 3.32 billion pounds last year. This total includes 1.87 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 683 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 67.0 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 514 million pounds of which 461 million pounds were edible grades and 52.4 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 88.7 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 340 million pounds of Runners, and 32.9 million pounds of Spanish. February millings totaled 378 million pounds. Millings by type were 61.9 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 300 million pounds of Runners, and 16.2 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 129 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during February. Utilization by type was 72.8 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 22.8 million pounds for peanut candy, and 32.3 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 12.2 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 849,280 pounds of peanut butter and 33,264 pounds of roasted peanuts during February. Stocks of treated seed on hand February 29, 2008 totaled 6.59 million pounds, compared with 1.99 million pounds on January 31, 2008. Of the February total, 3.84 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 2.63 million pounds were Runners, and 131,000 pounds were Spanish. January stocks of treated seed included 716,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 1.24 million pounds of Runners, and 39,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to February 29, 2008.
