Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Down 2 Percent from a Year Ago Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 2.32 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on March 31, 2008 totaled 2.32 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 2.93 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 1.51 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 741 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 63.7 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 557 million pounds of which 505 million pounds were edible grades and 52.2 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 90.3 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 388 million pounds of Runners, and 26.8 million pounds of Spanish. March millings totaled 381 million pounds. Millings by type were 53.2 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 328 million pounds of Runners, and 196,000 pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 139 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during March. Utilization by type was 83.5 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 22.8 million pounds for peanut candy, and 31.6 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 32.4 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 385,600 pounds of peanut butter and 33,264 pounds of roasted peanuts during March. Stocks of treated seed on hand March 31, 2008 totaled 27.1 million pounds, compared with 6.59 million pounds on February 29, 2008. Of the March total, 8.12 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 18.4 million pounds were Runners, and 608,000 pounds were Spanish. February stocks of treated seed included 3.84 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 2.63 million pounds of Runners, and 131,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to March 31, 2008.
