Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Down 2 Percent from a Year Ago Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 1.97 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on April 30, 2008 totaled 1.97 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 2.59 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 1.17 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 736 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 64.3 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 553 million pounds of which 501 million pounds were edible grades and 52.0 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 91.9 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 389 million pounds of Runners, and 19.8 million pounds of Spanish. April millings totaled 377 million pounds. Millings by type were 68.3 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 302 million pounds of Runners, and 6.78 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 156 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during April. Utilization by type was 93.4 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 28.4 million pounds for peanut candy, and 32.7 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 31.3 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.60 million pounds of peanut butter during April. Stocks of treated seed on hand April 30, 2008 totaled 47.3 million pounds, compared with 27.1 million pounds on March 31, 2008. Of the April total, 10.5 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 35.7 million pounds were Runners, and 1.08 million pounds were Spanish. March stocks of treated seed included 8.12 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 18.4 million pounds of Runners, and 608,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to April 30, 2008.
