Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Down 2 Percent from a Year Ago Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 1.33 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on June 30, 2008 totaled 1.33 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.90 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 588 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 679 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 66.1 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 511 million pounds of which 467 million pounds were edible grades and 44.0 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 87.9 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 349 million pounds of Runners, and 29.6 million pounds of Spanish. June millings totaled 291 million pounds. Millings by type were 50.2 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 230 million pounds of Runners, and 10.3 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 159 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during June. Utilization by type was 87.2 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 33.7 million pounds for peanut candy, and 37.2 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 27.4 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.17 million pounds of peanut butter during June. Stocks of treated seed on hand June 30, 2008 totaled 1.02 million pounds, compared with 12.4 million pounds on May 31, 2008. Of the June total, 672,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 254,000 pounds were Runners, and 89,000 pounds were Spanish. May stocks of treated seed included 1.52 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 10.2 million pounds of Runners, and 608,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to June 30, 2008.
