Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 720 Million Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on August 31, 2008 totaled 720 million pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.17 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 124 million pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 547 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 48.8 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 411 million pounds of which 374 million pounds were edible grades and 37.3 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 70.8 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 271 million pounds of Runners, and 32.1 million pounds of Spanish. August millings totaled 232 million pounds. Millings by type were 49.7 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 178 million pounds of Runners, and 4.35 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 162 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during August. Utilization by type was 96.9 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 30.1 million pounds for peanut candy, and 33.7 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 26.3 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 3.19 million pounds of peanut butter during August and 51,840 pounds of roasted peanuts during August. Stocks of treated seed on hand August 31, 2008 totaled 425,000 pounds, compared with 534,000 pounds on July 31, 2008. Of the August total, 335,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 71,000 pounds were Runners, and 19,000 pounds were Spanish. July stocks of treated seed included 415,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 98,000 pounds of Runners, and 21,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to August 31, 2008.
