Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Up 1 Percent from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 3.16 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on October 31, 2008 totaled 3.16 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 2.75 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 2.63 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 484 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 38.4 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 364 million pounds of which 339 million pounds were edible grades and 25.0 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 69.5 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 241 million pounds of Runners, and 29.0 million pounds of Spanish. October millings totaled 412 million pounds. Millings by type were 71.0 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, and 337 million pounds of Runners, and 3.99 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 152 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during October. Utilization by type was 90.5 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 27.1 million pounds for peanut candy, and 34.0 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 39.0 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 3.44 million pounds of peanut butter and 155,520 pounds of roasted peanuts during October. Stocks of treated seed on hand October 31, 2008 totaled 387,000 pounds, compared with 360,000 pounds on September 30, 2008. Of the October total, 289,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 79,000 pounds were Runners, and 19,000 pounds were Spanish. September stocks of treated seed included 249,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 92,000 pounds of Runners, and 19,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to October 31, 2008.
