Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Up 1 Percent from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 3.74 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on February 28, 2009 totaled 3.74 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 2.62 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 2.94 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 734 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 66.6 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 552 million pounds of which 519 million pounds were edible grades and 32.4 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 102 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 387 million pounds of Runners, and 30.7 million pounds of Spanish. February millings totaled 339 million pounds. Millings by type were 77.3 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 256 million pounds of Runners, and 5.39 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 141 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during February. Utilization by type was 92.8 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 20.7 million pounds for peanut candy, and 26.7 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 14.2 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.93 million pounds of peanut butter and 103,680 pounds of roasted peanuts during February. Stocks of treated seed on hand February 28, 2009 totaled 1.62 million pounds, compared with 404,000 pounds on January 31, 2009. Of the February total, 1.53 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 69,000 pounds were Runners, and 19,000 pounds were Spanish. January stocks of treated seed included 313,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 72,000 pounds of Runners, and 19,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to February 28, 2009.
