Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Up 1 Percent from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 3.05 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on April 30, 2009 totaled 3.05 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.97 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 2.28 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 693 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 77.4 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 521 million pounds of which 496 million pounds were edible grades and 25.0 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 103 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 364 million pounds of Runners, and 29.3 million pounds of Spanish. April millings totaled 341 million pounds. Millings by type were 68.5 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 254 million pounds of Runners, and 18.5 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 144 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during April. Utilization by type was 94.0 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 22.2 million pounds for peanut candy, and 27.0 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 26.9 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.10 million pounds of peanut butter and 129,600 pounds of roasted peanuts during April. Stocks of treated seed on hand April 30, 2009 totaled 32.6 million pounds, compared with 15.9 million pounds on March 31, 2009. Of the April total, 7.98 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 23.8 million pounds were Runners, and 827,000 pounds were Spanish. March stocks of treated seed included 5.76 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 9.94 million pounds of Runners, and 154,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to April 30, 2009.
