Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Up Slightly from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 2.76 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on May 31, 2009 totaled 2.76 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.63 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 2.01 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 675 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 75.5 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 507 million pounds of which 486 million pounds were edible grades and 21.4 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 104 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 353 million pounds of Runners, and 28.3 million pounds of Spanish. May millings totaled 326 million pounds. Millings by type were 60.2 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 257 million pounds of Runners, and 8.69 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 142 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during May. Utilization by type was 89.2 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 24.1 million pounds for peanut candy, and 27.8 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 26.4 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.14 million pounds of peanut butter and 77,760 pounds of roasted peanuts during May. Stocks of treated seed on hand May 31, 2009 totaled 15.3 million pounds, compared with 32.8 million pounds on April 30, 2009. Of the May total, 3.77 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 11.1 million pounds were Runners, and 402,000 pounds were Spanish. April stocks of treated seed included 7.98 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 24.0 million pounds of Runners, and 827,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to May 31, 2009.
