Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Up 1 Percent from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 2.45 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on June 30, 2009 totaled 2.45 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.33 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 1.65 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 727 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 68.2 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 546 million pounds of which 528 million pounds were edible grades and 17.9 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 107 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 388 million pounds of Runners, and 33.1 million pounds of Spanish. June millings totaled 351 million pounds. Millings by type were 41.4 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 294 million pounds of Runners, and 15.6 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 166 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during June. Utilization by type was 95.5 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 35.1 million pounds for peanut candy, and 34.4 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 28.0 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.03 million pounds of peanut butter and 77,760 pounds of roasted peanuts during June. Stocks of treated seed on hand June 30, 2009 totaled 806,000 pounds, compared with 15.3 million pounds on May 31, 2009. Of the June total, 570,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 215,000 pounds were Runners, and 21,000 pounds were Spanish. May stocks of treated seed included 3.77 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 11.1 million pounds of Runners, and 402,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to June 30, 2009.
