Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Up 6 Percent from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 2.82 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on October 31, 2009 totaled 2.82 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 3.21 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 2.01 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 763 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 43.3 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 574 million pounds of which 554 million pounds were edible grades and 20.1 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 116 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 425 million pounds of Runners, and 13.1 million pounds of Spanish. October millings totaled 353 million pounds. Millings by type were 65.7 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias and 288 million pounds of Runners. Commercial processors utilized 159 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during October. Utilization by type was 94.7 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 35.3 million pounds for peanut candy, and 28.7 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 33.7 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 6.30 million pounds of peanut butter and 648,000 pounds of roasted peanuts during October. Stocks of treated seed on hand October 31, 2009 totaled 611,000 pounds, compared with 669,000 pounds on September 30, 2009. Of the October total, 403,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 157,000 pounds were Runners, and 51,000 pounds were Spanish. September stocks of treated seed included 453,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 165,000 pounds of Runners, and 51,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to October 31, 2009.
