Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Up 4 Percent from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 3.16 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on March 31, 2010 totaled 3.16 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 3.45 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 2.27 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 837 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 55.2 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 629 million pounds of which 604 million pounds were edible grades and 25.8 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 144 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 432 million pounds of Runners, and 27.4 million pounds of Spanish. March millings totaled 372 million pounds. Millings by type were 63.2 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 293 million pounds of Runners, and 16.6 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 168 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during March. Utilization by type was 112 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 24.1 million pounds for peanut candy, and 30.7 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 27.7 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.27 million pounds of peanut butter and 25,920 pounds of roasted peanuts during March. Stocks of treated seed on hand March 31, 2010 totaled 20.0 million pounds, compared with 2.45 million pounds on February 28, 2010. Of the March total, 7.32 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 12.6 million pounds were Runners, and 87,000 pounds were Spanish. February stocks of treated seed included 2.21 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 183,000 pounds of Runners, and 51,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to March 31, 2010.
