Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Up 4 Percent from Last Year Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 2.45 Billion Pounds Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on May 31, 2010 totaled 2.45 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 2.76 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 1.59 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 812 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 52.4 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 611 million pounds of which 582 million pounds were edible grades and 28.9 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 127 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 433 million pounds of Runners, and 21.6 million pounds of Spanish. May millings totaled 309 million pounds. Millings by type were 46.0 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 255 million pounds of Runners, and 8.19 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 149 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during May. Utilization by type was 94.0 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 23.1 million pounds for peanut candy, and 30.3 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 30.4 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.62 million pounds of peanut butter and 51,840 pounds of roasted peanuts during May. Stocks of treated seed on hand May 31, 2010 totaled 14.5 million pounds, compared with 38.8 million pounds on April 30, 2010. Of the May total, 3.73 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 10.3 million pounds were Runners, and 530,000 pounds were Spanish. April stocks of treated seed included 9.36 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 28.3 million pounds of Runners, and 1.14 million pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to May 31, 2010.
