Broilers production by State on page 4 was corrected for other States, total production and the 15 weekly States total. Broiler production by State, 2001 on page 5 was corrected for Nebraska and Total. ************************************************************************* Production and Value by States, 2000-2001 Value of Production and Sales Up 13 Percent The combined value of production from broilers, eggs, turkeys and the value of sales from chickens in 2001, was $24.0 billion, up 13 percent from the $21.2 billion in 2000. Of the combined total, 70 percent was from broilers, over 18 percent from eggs, over 11 percent from turkeys, and less than 1 percent from other chickens. Value of Broiler Production Up 19 Percent The value of broilers produced during 2001 was $16.7 billion, up 19 percent from 2000. The total number of broilers produced in 2001 was 8.39 billion, up 1 percent from 2000. The total amount of live weight broilers produced in 2001 was 42.4 billion pounds, up 2 percent from 2000. The 2001 average price per pound on a live weight equivalent basis was 39.3 cents per pound, compared to 33.6 cents per pound in 2000. Value of Egg Production Up 2 Percent Value of all egg production in 2001 was $4.44 billion, up 2 percent from the $4.35 billion in 2000. Egg production totaled 85.7 billion eggs, up 2 percent from the 84.4 billion eggs produced in 2000. In 2001, all eggs averaged 62.2 cents per dozen, compared with 61.8 cents in 2000. Value of Turkey Production Down 1 Percent The value of turkeys produced during 2001 was $2.79 billion, down 1 percent from the $2.82 billion the previous year. Turkey production in 2001 totaled 7.15 billion pounds, compared with 6.94 billion pounds in 2000. The average price received by producers during 2001 was 39.0 cents per pound, compared with 40.7 cents in 2000. Value of Sales of Chicken Down 28 Percent The value of sales from chickens (excluding broilers) in 2001 was $46.0 million, down 28 percent from the $63.9 million a year ago. Prices averaged 4.5 cents per pound, compared with 5.7 cents in 2000. The number of chickens sold in 2001 totaled 200 million, down 8 percent from the total sold during the previous year.
