California Stocks Up From 1994 Rough rice stocks in California in all positions on October 1 totaled 4.93 million cwt, up 100 percent from last year. This total included 4.19 million cwt of medium varieties, 219,000 cwt of long grain varieties, and 522,000 cwt of short grain rice. The California October 1 rough rice stocks were down 52 percent from August 1 stocks. Milled rice stocks in all positions totaled 1.15 million cwt, 31 percent above the comparable figure for a year ago. Milled rice stocks were comprised of 837,000 cwt of whole kernel rice and 312,000 cwt of second heads, screenings, and brewers rice.
