California Stocks Down From 1995 Rough Rice stocks in California in all positions on October 1 totaled 4.65 million hundredweight (cwt), down 6 percent from the total on October 1, 1995. Medium grain varieties accounted for 97 percent of the total rough rice stocks at 4.51 million cwt. The California October 1 rough rice stocks were down 55 percent from August 1 stocks. Milled rice stocks in all positions totaled 1.07 million cwt, 7 percent below the comparable figure for a year ago. Milled rice stocks were comprised of 885,000 cwt of whole kernel rice and 184,000 cwt of second heads, screenings and brewers rice.
