California Stocks Lowest Level Since 1981 Rough Rice stocks in California in all positions on October 1 totaled 1.41 million hundredweight (cwt), the lowest level since 1981. Medium grain varieties accounted for 61 percent of the total rough rice stocks at 861,000 cwt. The California October 1 rough rice stocks were down 66 percent from August 1 stocks. Milled rice stocks in all positions totaled 413,000 cwt, 38 percent below the comparable figure for a year ago. Milled rice stocks were comprised of 371,000 cwt of whole kernel rice and 42,000 cwt of second heads, screenings and brewers rice.
