California Rough Rice Stocks Down 19 Percent From October 2006 Rough rice stocks in all positions on October 1, 2007, totaled 3.00 million hundredweight (cwt), down 19 percent from the total on October 1, 2006. California rough rice stocks were down 60 percent from the August 1, 2007 level. Medium grain varieties accounted for 84 percent of the total rough rice, while long grain and short grain varieties combined to account for about 16 percent of the total rough rice stocks. Milled rice stocks in all positions totaled 651,000 cwt, down 15 percent from a year ago. Milled rice stocks were comprised of 442,000 cwt of whole kernel rice and 209,000 cwt of second heads, screenings, and brewers rice.
