California Rough Rice Stocks Down 39 Percent from October 2007 Rough rice stocks in all positions on October 1, 2008, totaled 1.84 million hundredweight (cwt), down 39 percent from the total on October 1, 2007. California rough rice stocks were down 68 percent from the August 1, 2008 level. Medium grain varieties accounted for 59 percent of the total rough rice, while long and short varieties combined to account for 41 percent of the total rough rice stocks. Milled rice stocks in all positions totaled 612,000 cwt, down 6 percent from a year ago and 20 percent below the total on October 1, 2006.
