Introduction: This bulletin presents final estimates, including revisions made by the Agricultural Statistics Board (ASB), for the production years 1999 through 2003. Sheep and goat inventory, market sheep, lamb crop, and wool and mohair production were published during calendar years 1999-2003 in periodic ASB reports. The number of livestock operations and inventory by size groups will be published in Livestock Operations - Final Estimates 1998-2002, Statistical Bulletin 1002. Data included in this publication provide a historic record and a benchmark for current estimates. Inventory values and value per head will be published in the Meat Animals, PDI - Final Estimates 1998-2002, Statistical Bulletin No. 995. Procedures: Revisions were made after a thorough review of the original survey data and all additional data now available, including the 2002 Census of Agriculture. Other data series considered included slaughter data, shipment records, imports, and exports. Inventory levels, and lamb crops, were compared to historic totals. The 1999-2003 estimates shown herein are considered final and will not be revised again. At the National level, revisions to estimates of sheep inventories and lamb crops were less than one percent.
